Desk+Chair: Local Food+Drink

Nestled right the centre of the lively Bo Phut area of Samui, Desk+Chair is a coworking space surrounded by a rich foodie scene that caters to every budget, palate and working schedule.

Here’s a run down of our tried-and-tested favourites, so that our coworking community members can make sure they’re nourished, hydrated and ready to focus on their working day.

Have a read of our thoughts below, or just grab our curated Desk+Chair: Local Food+Drink Google Maps list and browse for yourself :)

Meal Prep Samui
Good for: Walkable distance, healthy options, vegan & vegetarian, sweet treats, cheap eats
If you’re looking for something colourful, healthy and filling, look no further. Not only can Meal Prep make you a fresh, balanced and healthy breakfast or lunch, but they can also incorporate your nutritional health goals into a variety-filled meal plan built just for you.

Khang Non Cafe
Good for: local & authentic, vegan & vegetarian, family run, outdoor seating, cheap eats
I’m going to try not to evangelise, but this is just some of the best Thai food on the island. A cute, small no-frills garden restaurant that is run by a husband and wife from Northern Thailand, who serve up the best dishes that can all be made vegetarian. The Khao Soi and the Pomelo Salad are famous. Try them.

Kawin’s Kitchen
Good for: slightly finer dining, vegan & vegetarian, lovely atmosphere, family run
Kawin’s kitchen is a cosy, family-run restaurant serving high-quality Thai dishes. Also serving good wine and delicious cocktails, this restaurant is suitable for just a quick sit down lunch or a delicious three course dinner.

Si Khao Night Market
Good for: Walkable distance, local & authentic cuisine, sweet treats, cheap eats
A bustling, busy, colourful night market that is on every evening from 5-11pm and offers all the Thai cuisine you could think of. On one stall you might find Khao Soi and Pad Thai and on another, donuts and deep-fried crickets. Enjoy the browsing and see what you fancy!

Juice Queen & Acai Story
Good for: healthy, brunch, coffee, smoothies, vegetarian & vegan options
A great all-rounder, Juice Queen has much more than the name suggests, with its menu full of colourful and nutritious bowls, bagels, curries and smoothies. Acai Story, the adjoining cafe, offers a range of antioxidant-rich acai bowls, topped with all sorts of colourful and healthy fruit and nut combos.

Flo
Good for: Coffee, pastries, atmosphere
Desk+Chair’s proud coffee partner and provider, Flo is one of our favourite coffee shops on the island. You can select the coffee profile you prefer from a range of beans, and the helpful baristas will create your perfect coffee, to enjoy in their calm café surroundings. A must for coffee-loving members (but remember, you can get it in the office for free!)

Cafe K.O.B Bo Phut
Good for: Brunch, lunch, vegetarian & vegan, coffee, consistency
With 5 branches around the island, you’re never too far from a K.O.B. With a full bakery, pastries and a huge and very consistent menu with international and Thai options, Café K.O.B is a great place to grab some food when you’d like something quick and easy.

Banyan Food Market
Good for: Walkable distance, atmosphere, variety of food options, bar and drinks available
Why not walk down to Banyan Food Market, choose from their many lovely outdoor seating areas and relax underneath the majestic Banyan tree, while choosing a dish from the range of eateries around you. Try Sorté Pizzeria for authentic Italian food.

Nong Win Khao Tom Night
Good for: Very cheap authentic Thai eats, lots of options
This no-frills restaurant serves up traditional Thai food at very reasonable prices. Though not good for vegan options, the menu is huge and the sesame-coated chicken wings come very well recommended. Only open in the evenings, and only has a Thai name on Google, so just follow that ^ link ;)

Nature Samui
Good for: Healthy, organic, outdoor seating, vegan and vegetarian options
A large garden next to a lily pond, The Nature Samui serves up colourful organic healthy dishes at very reasonable prices. Good for a leisurely lunch away from your laptop to get your green fix.

That should be enough to keep even the hungriest Desk+Chair members going, but with the food and drink scene constantly expanding on Koh Samui, we’ll continue adding to this blog and the Google Maps list so that Desk+Chair coworking members always have their pick of the best local options.

Bon appétit!
